by Blind Sailing 31 May 2013 11:24 PDT 25 May - 1 June 2013

Team GBR seal the Squadron Cup

A great day again for Team GBR. After yesterday was blown off, all competitors where keen to resume action. The morning brought a fresh north-easterly breeze of 15-17 knots off the land with the inevitable shifts.

The first race of the day saw the breeze build throughout its duration and what a race it was for Team GBR who posted firsts in all three classes. This secured the gold medal for Lucy Hodges and her crew in the B2 boat.

The fleet where sent back to the marina to wait for an anticipated moderation in the breeze which duly arrived in the early afternoon. The second and ultimately the final race of the day was sailed.

Again in a north easterly wind of some 12 knots at the start which dropped rapidly by the time the last boat had finished.

Sharon Grennan B1 boat sailed safely to avoid any incidents, placing fifth. Sharon leads her fleet into the final day of racing.

Liam Cattermole and the B3 boat added to their first place in the morning guaranteeing them a silver medal.

The overall team trophy, the Squadron Cup, is now safely in the hands of Team GBR. With a current score of 54.8 points, they lead New Zealand by 27.2 points with Japan currently on 112, GBR can not be caught.

In all a very satisfactory day for the British team who look forward to the final two races of the regatta on Saturday 1st June, safe in the knowledge that an impressive week of sailing in nearly complete.
