IOM Europeans at Sailing Club of Rijeka, Cres, Croatia - Day 5

by Icarus Sailing Media 23 Nov 2012 22:15 PST 17-24 November 2012

From early on in the morning the weather did not look promising. After the fog cleared, bright sunshine made its appearance and with it came some breeze. Not for long though, since only the heats up to C got to race and then the wind died again.

So the competitors found some time to relax from the busy schedule of the previous days with 11 races being sailed so far. Another stream of wind finally came after a couple of hours that allowed the race committee to finish with the Heat sequence for the 11th race and quickly move to the sequence for the 12th race.

The wind had the upper hand again and the 12th race stopped at heat B, leaving for tomorrow heat A to be completed. Saturday is the last day of the event that has been very successful so far. Everyone here looks very satisfied with the quality of racing and the high level with competitors coming here from 20 different countries all around the world.

At the top of the leaderboard is still the UK's Brad Gibson who now has a safe lead of 15 points and the chances of losing first place are slim. Croatia's Zvonko Jelacic has moved up to second place after finishing second in today's only race pushing the other Briton, Graham Elliott down to third. Nonetheless Jelacic is only one point ahead of Elliott and everything is going to be decided tomorrow.
