Star World Championship at Hyeres, France - Day 1

4-11 May 2012
Light winds on the first day of the Star Worlds, with shifty weather and a few general recalls before finally racing the one and only race. Xavier Rohart and Pierre Alexis Ponsot won easily with Loof and Salminen trying hard to pass them.
The day started with the breeze not eager to come. Finally, after a couple of hours of waiting, the committee decided to go for the 1st race but few general recalls made the sailors wait a bit more.
Around 2pm, the boats crossed the starting line and spread around the race course with the weather being really shifty and gusty. It was a race with a lot of ups and downs.
The French duo was the undisputable winner. A few places behind, Scheidt and Percy had their own battles.
There is a long way until the end and for sure, no one knows who will be the world champion.
Xavier Rohart, "It was difficult today, mostly for the committee. The cloudy weather did not give them the opportunity to start the race early. As for us, we decided to follow our initial strategy and placed ourselves in the middle of the race course in the one and only race. Being fast in upwind, it was the key to take the early lead."
