Enterprise Open at Buckenham Sailing Club

by Kevin Bilham 24 May 2011 08:44 PDT 22 May 2011

Four Enterprises registered for the annual Buckenham S.C. open on Sunday, with winds at a constant 45mph and gusts in excess of 55mph.

Race 1. Kevin Edwards and his daughter, Kevin Bilham with Jamie Cammann and Scott Bilham with Jack Cammann managed to launch in time for the start with Richard & John Salisbury left on the hard trying to fit their main sheet.

Scott and Jack capsized before the start signal, leaving only two boats to fight their way towards the first mark. After bearing off from the first bend and going on to a mad reach, Kevin Edwards had a slight lead, when Kevin Bilham decided that the conditions where boat breaking and retired. Having reached the first mark, Kevin also decided to retire.

Meanwhile both Scott and Richard had recovered from their pre-race problems and began their own race towards mark number 2, Richard then had a un-expected jibe, capsized and ended up on the lee shore. Scott and Jamie passed the capsized pair and continued to the next bend where they then capsize, but managed to right them self’s and complete the race in 1st position.

Race 2. Only three boats contested, with Kevin Edwards changing his Crew to Harry Shipley, and changing his sails to a Storm set. Richard and Scott both continued with full rig.

Scott was over the line leaving Richard and Kevin to battle it out to the first mark with Scott following, by the time the boats returned past the club house, Scott had overhauled the leading pair and seemed to be coping better with the conditions. Unfortunately Richard and Kevin capsized leaving Scott to have his second win of the day.
