Once again summer came early for the first Tera Open of the season held at Desborough SC on the River Thames. With a good breeze accompanying the sunshine the 17 young sailors and parents couldn’t have asked for a nicer day.

The day started with a short informal training session followed by a few practice laps of the course to help show the beginners the ropes and build confidence. Several of the sailors were competing for the first time including 7-year-old Rupert Jameson HISC, Jack Lewis Draycote WSC and William Houslander DSC.

The first of three short races was led from start to finish by Anya Green, HISC who got well clear of the pack. Niamh Davies, Burnham SC followed in second place. In the following race Niamh took line honours ahead of Henry Jameson, HISC with Anya pulling back to third after being buried in the pack for the first lap.

This saw Niamh and Anya go into the last race on equal points. Daniel Lewis, Draycote SC held the lead at first with Niamh and Anya in close pursuit. Anya made the best of the wind shifts and pulled into the lead by the end to win the final race and event overall. She was a worthy winner of the fabulous Nauticalia Trophy with Niamh Davies second overall followed by Alex Butler HISC, Grace Summers Emsworth SC & Henry Jameson HISC.

All of the sailors sailed well and completed all races in great spirit, so each was a very deserving recipient of an Easter Egg at the prize giving. The Endeavour Trophy awarded for special achievement was present to 8 year old William Houslander of Desborough SC who was competing for the first time after just a few days of learning to sail.

Thanks go to Desborough SC for once again hosting a great event for the Tera Class which was enjoyed by all.
