Enterprise Broads Area Open at Snowflake Sailing Club

by Kevin Bilham 23 Mar 2011 17:42 AEDT 20 March 2011

Snowflake Sailing Club hosted the first of the Broads Area opens on Sunday, with 3 Enterprises turning out.

The first race was signaled but unfortunately only one competitor was on the water, the other two were still launching. The race got underway with Richard Salisbury E21862 (Beccles ASC) having an easy start all on his own, Scott Bilham E22315 (Ely SC) getting there 4 minutes late. The third Enterprise owned by Kevin Bilham never made the race due to a boat problem.

Race 2 saw Scott Bilham over the line at the start and, after returning, having to chase Richard for the first lap, He managed to get in touch by the beginning of the second lap and overtook when Richard had a fall in the boat. Scott managed to keep Richard at bay on the windward leg and then proceeded to round the mark in the wrong direction. Whilst un-winding, a gust came and capsized him. This was unfortunately the end of Scott’s race due to insufficient wind to clear the water from his boat and he was forced to retire.

For Race 3, Scott lent his boat to Kevin and after a good start he managed to get the lead until two bad wind shifts let Richard through. By the end of the first lap, Kevin was on Richard's tail again and managed to pass him on the next beat and finish first.

Overall Results:

1st E21862 Richard Salisbury and Crew (Beccles ASC)
2nd E22315 Kevin Bilham and Jamie Cammon (Ely SC)
3rd E22315 Scott Bilham and Jack Cammon (Ely SC)
