Henri Lloyd’s new Blue Eco Jacket wins its Category and the ‘Most ECO-Friendly Product Certificate’ at the DAME Awards 2009

The new Henri Lloyd Blue Eco Jacket has won its Category and the ‘Most ECO-Friendly Product Certificate’ at the 2009 DAME Awards. This follows the success from the 2008 DAME Awards when Henri Lloyd won their category for the TP2 Shadow 2G Jacket and the 2006 & 2007 DAME Awards when Henri Lloyd received a special mention for the TP2 Phantom Jacket – Women’s and Atmosphere Jacket respectively.

Since its introduction in 1991, the DAME Award has become recognized worldwide as the leading international competition of its type within the field of marine equipment and accessories.

Henri Lloyd won Category 5 – Clothing and Crew accessories, alongside Guy Cotton S.A., Musto and On Deck – Imhoff and were also delighted to win the Most ECO-Friendly Product Certificate; the announcement took place at the METS Breakfast Briefing this morning.

The Blue Eco Jacket and their accompanying Hi Fit trousers, are both recycled and recyclable, and are the showcase products in Henri Lloyd’s mission to become a greener manufacturing company, and to be the first international marine clothing company to engage in an infinite recycling programme.

Partnering with the Japanese company Teijin (Japanese company specialising in developing environment-friendly products and services) and using ECO CIRCLE™ (Teijin’s revolutionary recycling system) Henri Lloyd has been able to produce its first ever entirely sustainable sailing wear through its own Blue Eco ‘infinite-loop’ recycling system.

Under the ‘infinite-loop’ system, customers can return worn-out Blue Eco products to Henri Lloyd for recycling through Teijin’s revolutionary fibre-to-fibre recycling facility. The recycled raw material is then converted into new, highly durable polyester fibres and engineered into fabric that is used for the manufacture of new Blue Eco products.

In an effort to significantly help reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption, Henri Lloyd’s Blue Eco Range is manufactured using highly functional new TP Eco recycled polyester fabric. The Blue Eco range is wind & waterproof and highly breathable and has all the high quality design features associated with Henri Lloyd products. The Blue Eco Jacket is stylish and well cut, yet functional with features including articulated elbows/underarms, adjustable cuffs, storm flap with drainage channel that covers a two-way non-corrosive zip and an adjustable hem adjuster, fleece-lined collar, inner security pocket and two large fleece-lined hand-warmer pockets. The design of the jacket offers room for generous layering, and features a breathable lining. The rollaway articulated hood benefits from one handed shockcord aperture adjusters and an articulated hood pod for streamlined stowage.

As well as the exciting colours available including Carbon, Marine, Topaz and Yellow, the Blue Eco collection is manufactured in a large range of sizes from XS-XXL.

Paul Strzelecki – Joint Chief Executive of Henri Lloyd, who had the honour of receiving both awards, said “This is our second consecutive Category win, which is a great testament to the outstanding work of our design and development team who continue to push the bounders of innovation.”

“We are especially pleased to win the Eco Award as we believe the Blue Eco Jacket is positive first step on a long journey to become a more environmentally friendly company.”
