59er Nationals at Queen Mary Sailing Club

by Dave Hall, Ovington Boats 29 Sep 2004 04:49 PDT

The 2004 59er Championship was held along side the 9er open at Queen Mary Sailing Club, Saturday brought light winds and drizzle making for interesting tactical racing but not very exciting to do or watch. Sundays racing was delayed for an hour while waiting for wind. Eventually the wind came, building through the day to make the last race of the day fast and furious.

While Dave Hall & Adam Clark from Thorpe Bay SC won every race the really interesting racing and place changes took place in the fight for 2nd and 3rd. Rob Dulson/Christine Irendale just taking the runner up spot from John Bennett and his son.

Overall Results:

1st David Hall 59er 117, 5 pts
2nd Ron Dulson 59er 100, 14 pts
3rd John Bennett 59er 95, 15 pts

First glimpse of the 59er
In words, photos & videos... Friday was my first chance to have a go in the new 59er from Ovington Boats. This Frank Bethwaite designed boat is designed for the more mature skiff sailor with no trapezes, but performance that you would associate with a true skiff-style boat. Posted on 18 Mar 2002
