Barmouth to Fort William Three Peaks Yacht Race Prize Giving

The finale to the 2009 Barmouth to Fort William Three Peaks Yacht Race took place on Saturday October 31st when the 30 trophies were presented at the dinner dance at the Celtic Royal Hotel in Caernarfon.
The overall winners of the Daily Telegraph Cup were EADS Innovation Works, a Reflex 38 based in Cowes and skippered by Geoff West with team mates Gary Clayton, John Donnelly, Martin Indge and Martin Beale, making this a fourth overall victory for Geoff.
The Tilman Trophy, for the team with at least four members of the crew completing a mountain section, inspired by the exploits of sailor, mountaineer and Barmouth resident Major Harold Tilman, was won by Starship, a first time entry based in Cardiff.
The IRC Trophy was won by Kithross ll, a Moody S31from Topsham, skippered by another regular ‘Three Peaker’, Bill Ricketts and the 5girlsinaboat Trophy for an all lady team went to Helly Hensen UK, skippered by Helen Acton. The Karrimor Award for the greatest amount raised for charity went to Team GOSH, raising over £20,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Chris Sellens and Allen Smalls, from Colchester Running Club aboard GFT adventure based in Conway, won the Kings of the Mountains titles by having the fastest time on all three mountain stages at Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis.
Of the 32 starters, 25 boats completed the course and various trophies were awarded to 18 of the finishers for categories including fastest sailing times for each section to EADS Innovation Works, GFT Adventure and Team Last Inn from Barmouth, slowest mountain times to Maracuja, oldest runners from Nunatak and the Wrinkles Trophy for the oldest team, awarded appropriately to Driac in the oldest boat to finish, a 1930’s Camper & Nicholson.
