RC Laser TT Series Round 7 at Kingsmill Model Boat Club

Low level misty cloud welcomed the brave 11 who arrived to take part in round 7 of the RC Laser TT Series held by Kingsmill Model Boat Club who sail from Sutton-in-Ashfield Sailing Club. After laying the buoys in the misty fog and drizzle, the racing started, in the Olympic format triangle sausage.

In the first race, after a lot of place changes and buoy missing due to steamed up glasses (that was there excuse), Andy Kissick took the fist race with Dave Fowler, who was playing catch-up after a poor start, and Chris Jackson 3rd.

In the second race the same three did battle, Jackson finally took the bullet, with Kissick second Fowler third.

The third race saw a reverse with Fowler getting the start right and leading from start to finish. Dennis Froggatt, in his first TT, came second, with Derek Warriner picking up third.

A similar patter happened for the rest of the morning completing 8 races under ‘A ‘ rigs.

After lunch the wind had increased and all the helms bar 1 (Derek) went for the ‘B’ rig which worked well until, down the long run to the leeward mark those immortal words ‘Dive Dive Dive’ were ringing in Derek’s ears. Fowler again continued his form with another bullet and Hugo Chandor following in second, John Park third.

The rest of the afternoon followed with Fowler not dropping out of the top 3, Kissick now keeping out of trouble gained 3 bullets but some other bad places.

The 13th race was a big event for newcomer Stuart Pearson who was elated to gain a third place behind Fowler 2nd and a Jackson bullet.

The last race was sailed in a strengthening wind seeing two people going for the ‘C’ rig which rewarded Kissick on the last leg overhauling Fowler to take the final race.

A big well done to John Gamble who had never sailed/raced his RC Laser before, but gained a wealth of experience and help, gaining an 8th place in race 9.

A fine day of racing was had by all skippers, including 4 newcomers to the TT series and RC Laser class.
