60th Anniversary Regatta at Maldon Yacht Club

by Dean Saxton 1 Jun 2009 03:42 PDT 30-31 May 2009

Twelve competitors competed for the prizes at Maldon’s 60th anniversary regatta. Six races were held over the weekend, including two which were designated as charity races for Sail4Cancer, with the weekend festivities raising over £1300 for the charity.

Bright sunshine and a good breeze was enjoyed by all, which led to some very close racing and a fair share of the spoils. Lewis Woodland and Jonathan Bailey sailing their Hornet extremely well took race 1 from Dean Saxton and Robert Smith, also Hornet. Veteran sailor, Mike Hedgecock excelled to take line honours in race two from Lewi and Jono.

Dean and Rob just pipped Lewi and Jono for race 3, but Lewi and Jono came back in race 4 to take the win from Ben fullalove sailing his Blaze. Races 5 and 6 were dominated by Ben Fullalove who had found the go button and managed to keep the pressure on Simon White and Simon Evance sailing a Hornet to win on corrected time.

Overall Results:

1st Lewis Woodland & Jonathan Bailey, Hornet, 6pts
2nd Ben Fullalove, Blaze, 7pts
3rd Dean Saxton & Robert Smith, Hornet, 9pts
4th Mike Hedgecock, Laser, 14pts
5th Simon White & Simon Evance, Hornet, 16pts
6th Keith Gower, Laser, 21pts
