Classic Flying 15 Open at Humber Yawl Club

by Peter Clark 18 Jun 2008 13:33 UTC 14 June 2008

For the 125th Anniversary Year we had the most enjoyable Spring Regatta for several years by having the cruiser racers back at Brough for the steady and light to moderate easterly winds throughout and fine warm weather.

All three races were won by the regular crewed Slicker Chick, but never easily as the other three boats reduced mistakes and culminated in the final race with everyone and the Squibs going for the combined charge start and getting it right.

Anaconda, lying just 4th through previously having had to thread the needle after being the first to discover a first ever massive reversal of tide when beating into the airfield bank, went aground in the otherwise useful south shore eddy. Helm over the stern, turn and push off and a different route to the finish ignoring most of the 3 day Moon eddy and aided by still impressive windward pulling power of her 16 year old Ivan Coryn genoa, groomed by Goacher Sails 2 years ago for club racing, got her into 2nd.

Overall Results:

1st ff2255 ‘Slicker Chick’ Trevor and Sarah Rutt
2nd ff1333 ‘Anaconda’ Peter Clark
3rd ff2525 ‘Vedra’ Ray Murtagh and David Dixon
