A force 3 south westerly wind blowing steadily down the lake, accompanied by warm sunshine, heralded the prospect of a glorious day's sailing for the 16 visitors and 8 home boats that arrived at Banbury on April 26th for the Solo Open, part of the Midland Area Traveller series sponsored by Speed Sails.

The first race was lead decisively by Stuart Hydon , followed at a distance by Chris Brown and Jon Clarke fighting for second place. Eventually Clarke finished second with Brown third.

Fortified with a home cooked lunch the fleet set out for the second race. The wind had increased slightly resulting in several capsizes at the gybe marks. The entire fleet enjoyed some close racing, with most places being closely fought. At the front Brown came in first, Hydon second and Clarke third.

With the wind increasing still further the third race commenced. Again it was lead by Hydon, although the now usual close racing throughout the rest of the fleet left few other places decided until the end. It finished with Brown second, Colin Newton third and Clarke fourth.

Thank you to everyone who attended and all the Banbury helpers – you made a good day great.
