A training day was held on Saturday 5th April. Mike Birch supplied excellent training. Everybody had learnt plenty and a great day was had by all.

Sunday 6th April saw the start of the North West Top Helm Series. The wind was coming from the north and was between force 1 – 3. 17 boats turned up for the start of race 1.

A recall was had at the start. On the second start everybody got away cleanly. Charlie & Hannah Adams (WLYC) approached the buoy in first with Steve Blackburn & Nick Hampson (WLYC) in 2nd. The wind was very tricky and lots of changes in position took place. Charlie managed to sail into the lead and won the race with ease. Ed Pilling & Dave Boustead (Arnside) took second with John Berry & Fiona Rattigan (Etherow) in 3rd.

After lunch, which was homemade soup and chili, race 2 got under way. Again Steve & Charlie had great starts and led for a few laps. The pack caught the leaders and Royston Taggart & Diane Roberts (Pilkington) held the lead to the end. Steve finished in 2nd with Matt Johnson & Charles Bower (SCYC) in third.

A short break was had and race 3 begun with snow falling on the boats. Ed Pilling & Charlie Adams had great starts again and lead the race. Charlie managed to pull into first with Ed in 2nd. John Berry sailed very well and managed to make into 3rd place after being in the middle of the pack most of the race.

A big thank you to everybody at Toddbrook SC for a cold and excellent day.

Overall Results:

1st Charlie & Hannah Adams (WLYC)
2nd Ed Pilling & Dave Boustead (Arnside SC)
3rd Royston Taggart & Diane Roberts (Pilkington SC)
4th Steve Blackburn & Nick Hampson (WLYC / Pilkington SC)
5th John Berry & Fiona Rattigan (Etherow CPSC)
