Ramsgate Week 2007 - Days 3 & 4

by Ashley Taylor 15 Aug 2007 08:03 PDT 11-17 August 2007

Day 3

The Noot Cup race for IRC classes was abandoned and is scheduled to be rerun on Thursday after the QEII Cup race.

For the cruiser classes the wind, still from the SW, had risen to 15 to 20 knots and a more testing course was set.

The first windward leg to the Stonar again saw the fleets closely bunched, but after the run back to the N.Quern and a close reach out to the Pearson & Gore, the fleets spread out with ‘Heavens Above’ Bravado’ & ‘Sunbird’ again leading class 5 while ‘Posh Totty’ & ‘Alcyone’ were showing class 6 the way. From Pearson & Gore, in spite of a strong wind, the fleets found it difficult to make much way against a now very strong tide and so the long beat to Simrad took well over an hour.

After a fast run and a reach down tide to the Mercedes and then back to Pearson & Gore, the fleet had to endure another long beat. It was here that some decided to call it a day but ‘Posh Totty’ & ‘Alcyone’ stayed the course and finished 1st & 2nd in class 6, the only two finishers in that class, while ‘Heavens Above’, ‘Bravado’ & ‘Sunbird’ battled on to take 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively in class 5.

Day 4

There was no racing on day 4 due to gale force winds.
