Speed win Swiss Fireball Nationals

Shane MacCarthy & Tommy Hall have won the Swiss Fireball Championships held on Lake Biel. The 3 day event attracted 30 teams from Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia and the UK. Sailing in Switzerland is notorious for light winds and over the three day event just 5 of the 12 scheduled races were held, with racing on Saturday being completely abandoned due to lack of breeze.
The close racing produced five different race winners and going into the final race any one of four boats could still clinch the event. Despite not winning a race, MacCarthy & Hall were the most consistent overall counting three seconds and a third position to win by three points from last year’s winners and 2002 European Champions Erich & Ruedi Moser.
So far this year, Speed Sails have finished first at the UK Championships, Irish Nationals, French Nationals and Swiss Nationals.
