Scottish Topper Championships at Peterhead Sailing Club

by Bill Young 19 Aug 2003 05:23 AEST

A fleet of 38 Toppers, including four local boats enjoyed two days of relatively steady winds and sunny weather in the Harbour at Peterhead. Two days of sailing produced, what some would say, an inevitable result and a new name on the Scottish Topper Championship Trophy.

Robin Paris continued his clean sweep of Topper events in Scotland with an emphatic victory in the Scottish Championships held at Peterhead Sailing Club over the weekend of 16th and 17th August 2003. He dropped only two firsts over the six race series, one on each day, but so strong was his lead, and his sailing ability, that he never looked seriously challenged over the weekend.

Craig Paul was a worthy runner up and 'old' hand Euan Ross came in third. Anna Dobson won the prize for highest placed girl, coming in 7th place.

Iain Docwra who was rushed to hospital on Saturday evening, following a violent allergic reaction to some jellyfish stings, was brave in coming out o n Sunday for the final tow races, to secure sixth place.
