Volvo Ocean Race - Team Brunel snabbast i lättvindsrace

Det nederländska laget Team Brunel tog hem det In-Port Race som under lördagskvällen avgjordes i Itajaí, Brasilien i mycket lätt vind. Martin Strömbergs Dongfeng Race Team gjorde en stark comeback i Volvo Ocean Race men missade andraplatsen på mållinjen.

– Alla i laget gjorde ett bra jobb. Det var kanske ett tursamt race för vår del men det behöver man ibland, säger Team Brunels skeppare Bouwe Bekking.

Lätta vindar på 1-3 sekundmeter och rullande svallvågor gjorde det svårt för de sex båtarna i Volvo Ocean Race att få fart i dagens In-Port Race. Team SCA fick den bästa starten och slogs med Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing i täten under de första två varven runt banan.



Vinden lättade ytterligare i slutet av det andra varvet då Team SCA tilldelades ett straff i ett möte med Team Brunel. Svenskbåten tvingades snurra ett varv och den nederländska båten kunde de gå om.
Samtidigt bestämde tävlingsledningen att banan skulle kortas på grund av den lätta vinden vilket innebar att lagen bara hade en undanvindsträcka kvar till målet.



Dongfeng Race Team hittade fart i rundningen och tog över ledningen när de seglade ut på banans högersida. Brunel valde vänstersidan vilket visade sig bli ett vinnande beslut. Brunel hittade mer vind, tog ledningen cirka 400 meter från målet och kunde sedan säkra segern. Dongfeng blev omseglade av Abu Dhabi precis innan mållinjen men laget gjorde en stark insatts i deras första kappsegling sedan mastbrottet i den femte etappen.



Team Brunel tog tack vare segern över ledningen i Volvo Ocean Race In-Port Series. Team SCA slutade fyra i dagens segling. Söndag klockan 19.00 startar den sjätte etappen till Newport, Rhode Island (USA).

Alla In-Port Race utgör en egen tävling, Volvo Ocean Race In-Port Series, med en poängställning som är separat från havsetapperna. Om flera lag skulle sluta på samma poäng i den i den stora Volvo Ocean Race-tabellen efter den sista etappen kommer ställningen avgöras utifrån vem som lyckats bäst i In-Port-serien.



Volvo Ocean Race avgörs i nio etapper på vägen runt jorden och den sista delsträckan avslutas med målgång i hjärtat av Göteborg i juni 2015.
