Volvo Ocean Race – Team Brunel arrives in Alicante second

by Team Brunel on 12 Oct 2017
Team Brunel arrives in Alicante second – Volvo Ocean Race Bart Salemans / Team Brunel
On Thursday October 12th around 3.30 am local time Team Brunel arrived as second boat in Alicante for the start of the Volvo Ocean Race.

Team Brunel arrived just after the Spanish Mapfre and well before the other five participating boats. The fleet left Lisbon for this prologue on Sunday afternoon.

Bekking pleased with result
Dutch skipper Bouwe Bekking was pleased with the result on arrival. 'We actually had a really good sail all the way to the finish. This leg was very light windy. It was the first time we exactly saw the new sails. We were nearly with a complete team which was one of the first times. We had a plan, especially tactical, and we stuck to our plan. It was nice that Mapfre had the same plan. Otherwise we would have been lone rangers.'

Shortened course
Due to light wind conditions Race Management shortened the course, converting the compulsory gate at Cabo de Gata into the finishing line. The teams continued to Alicante, the start port of the Volvo Ocean Race, 120 miles away by motor.
