The New Luhrs 30 Open - A serious sportfishing boat

by Tony Poole on 29 Jul 2011
Luhrs 30 Open - Carolina Flare for dry running - The New Luhrs 30 Open Tony Poole
Developed from the very popular 28 Open, the new Luhrs 30 Open comes with impeccable credentials as a serious sportfishing boat engineered to offer the very best performance and accommodations for its size.

The signature Luhrs fine entry bow profile expands out to a Carolina flare and deep-vee running surface to provide a dry comfortable ride offshore while the wide beam gives good stability and plenty of onboard space for fishing and entertaining.

Luhrs boats have a well earned reputation all around the world as being superb sea boats. Going by our experience in Australia with 28 Opens, the 30 Open will be able to travel with the 40’ boats in most sea conditions. Interestingly, with her 3.5 mtr beam, the Luhrs 30 Open is capable of being road towed in Australia (with permits).

Standard power is from two Yanmar 3.0l (6BY-260) 260hp widely spaced shaft drive diesels for the best balance of overall performance, economy, and manoeuvrability. Standard Luhrs engineering items include electronic controls, a built in fire-extinguisher, internal sea strainers, dripless shaft logs and large recessed trim tabs. Other items offered as options on most other boats in this category but standard on the Luhrs 30 Open include a battery charger, galvanic isolator, two automatic bilge pumps plus an emergency high water bilge pump. Even the hardtop comes standard. Boats built for the Australasian market are Australian Standards 240v and gas compliant.

The modern and comfortable interior offers good headroom and berths for up to four people. The galley has a s/s sink, fridge, stove, microwave, and Corian bench-top. There is a TV/Stereo/DVD player as standard. The roomy WC has an electric head with holding tank and a stand up shower. Of course, there’s a load of storage space for all those boating necessities and niceties.

The bridgedeck provides protection from the elements and comfortable seating for the crew. The large windscreen allows all-round visibility for the skipper to enjoy the driving experience while being in close communication with the crew. The alloy tower option adds another dimension in fishing fun by providing dual controls and clear 360 degree visibility at the height of many 40’ plus flybridges. Owners tend to use the tower whilst sportfishing and the bridge for travelling and entertaining.

The spacious cockpit includes a transom door, fresh and raw water wash-down taps, a plumbed live-bait tank, a huge ice-box, and a built-in transom box, all as standard. There’s plenty of room for a team of anglers to fish or for a table and chairs for lunch when cruising.
