Our friends in Dominica were hit by Hurricane Maria on Monday evening, a category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale, which ripped across the island. The hurricane has literally devastated the island and electricity and communication systems are down and expected to be so for weeks to come.

The Marine community through the Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association is working with Ondeck who is preparing its Farr 65 Spirit of Juno to head to Dominica late on Thursday evening to deliver much needed aid. They will then return a number of times over the coming weeks.

Anyone who wishes to donate can drop items at Falmouth Harbour Marina up to 4pm, today Wednesday or between 8.3.0am and 4pm any weekday, or at the Ondeck offices on Dockyard Drive within the same hours.

Initial requirements as stated by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt are:

Water
Medical Supplies
Bedding
Tarpaulins/shelter
Dry and tinned food

If you have any queries please call Ondeck and ask for Sandra or Jade: Tel: +1 (268) 562-6696.

There will be room for up to 6 people who want to get to Dominica to assist with relief efforts. Please contact Ondeck on the above numbers if you wish to go.

For those wishing to donate money, the Government of Dominica has set up an official funding site.
