by Richard Gladwell on 3 Aug 2012
August 1, 2012 - Weymouth, England - Ben Ainslie (GBR) fires out of the start with Zac Railey (USA) Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz

Defending Olympic Champion, Ben Ainslie (GBR) put his campaign to win four Olympic Gold medals on track today, cutting a 10pt margin going into the rest day, to just three points after scoring a first and third placing today at Weymouth.

Ainslie has also managed to open up a 13pt gap on the third placed sailor, Ivan Gaspic (CRO).

The British media and fans seemed to despair that their hero had lost his touch, being back in sixth place early in the series.

However Ainslie hit his straps straight out of the start, and was flying in three fresh breeze posting a first and a third, while his rival Jonas Hogh-Christensen (who had looked invincible earlier in the week) proved to be human posting and his wortst performance of the week (and eighth place) after a capsize, and a fourth in Race 8.
