IMG 0004 - Kona One windsurfing World Championships Daniel Nordlund
Best possible conditions are expected when the 2012 World Championships in fast growing windsurfing ISAF-class Kona One will take place at Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. In total 75 sailors from four continents will meet up. Sailors with plentiful of experience and medals will meet young talents, making the outcome very open.

Among the favorites will be last year’s World Champion, Danish windsurfing legend Tim Aagesen who has won a number of gold medals from international championships during three decades. Another name mentioned with great respect is Norwegian Jorunn Horgen, twice contender in the Olympics and with a track record of six gold medals from World Championships in different windsurfing classes.

What makes Kone One such a unique class is the spread in ages. The experienced will meet toughest possible competition from several young talents. One is Swedish Adam Holm (18 years) who has won medals in the past four years’ Kona Worlds. Kajsa Larsson (19 years old), also from Sweden, winning the female class last year is also regarded as one of the favorites.

'We want to offer the best possible Championships and make it an event that will always be remembered, no matter if you are racing or being a spectator, Marcos Perez, head of the racing organization comments.

The event will take place in the Masapalomas bay, November 2 – 7. This time of the year the conditions are very stable with winds ranging from 10 – 20 knots making it ideal for Kona-racing.

About Kona One-class: One of the fastest growing windsurfing classes in the world and part of ISAF. A one type class where all sailors have identical boards. The same sail is used in all conditions and size is according to weight to give the most fair conditions Event website
