Annapolis to Newport Race – Another retirement due to sail damage

In the 2013 Annapolis Newport Race, one more retirement has been caused by sail damage. Dawn Treader, the Double-Handed entry blew out her main about 7:15 Saturday evening. She was about 40 nm up the rhumbline from the light tower turning mark. About two hours later Sedna, PHRF III, was becalmed at the Bay Bridge Tunnel and in danger of being pushed into the bridge. She elected to turn on her engine and withdraw. It’s now 10 Sunday morning and we have just had a report that Shinnecock, PHRF I, has retired. If confirmed, that brings the total withdrawals to seven boats. Time running out to beat the course record set by Carrera in 2001. More about that shortly.
