Lisa Thompson, Radio New Zealand producer is here on a day after the regatta, armed with microphones and a recorder ready to go on the water to record an interview and get some sound effects. - Sunburst 50th Celebrations and 2014 Nationals Nigel Price

At the recent 2014 Sunburst Nationals held in January at the Wakatere Boating Club in Devonport, the class concurrently held a weekend celebrating the 50 years since the first boat was launched.

Radio New Zealand National sent Lisa Thompson along to record a documentary in their 'Spectrum' series about the 50th anniversary regatta and celebrations. She explores the history of the Sunburst, which is still providing hours of sailing enjoyment for young and old alike, and the reasons it is still a popular centreboard sailing class that is raced in many yacht clubs across the whole country..

This program can be heard on Radio New Zealand National, 101.4 FM, on Sunday 9th February at 12.15 pm, repeated at 12.30 am on Tuesday 11th Feb and 7.30 pm on Wednesday 12th Feb.
The program will also be available online as a podcast that can be listened to at a time of your choosing after the Sunday broadcast.

Spectrum is a long-running documentary series – it began in 1972 – which captures the essence of New Zealand through stories, landscape and people.
