Australian Mid-Winter Youth Championships - QLD locals seize day 2

by David Price on 8 Jul 2012
Close quarters approaching bottom gate - 2012 AUS Mid-Winter Youth Championships David Price
Queensland locals seized the day on day 2 of the 2012 Australian Mid-Winter Youth Championships in the 29er class with a clean sweep in three races, which has placed them at the top of the scorecard leading into the final day of racing on Waterloo Bay, Brisbane.

In the moderate breezes of 15kts topping around 20kts from south-east, the fleet had a smoother ride than the day before. Intermittent overcast skies delivered varying pressure throughout the day and the local crew 1873 Panther Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake QLD knew exactly what was required to punch their way through to be in the lead of the regatta at day’s end, taking the reins from yesterday’s leaders AUS 648 Henry and Grant Makin NSW Youth Sailing Team.

The top five places overall did not change from the preceding day, and all podium chances are still up for grabs coming into the last day’s racing with the first drop clocking over after race 1 today.

The weather predictions are a little softer again today so it will be a very interesting time for those that prefer smoother conditions with moderate breezes providing plenty of opportunity for those that want it.

Top Five Results:
1. 1873 Panther Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake QLD 3,4,1,1,1,1-11
2. AUS 648 Henry and Grant Makin NSWYST 1,1,2,2,2,7-15
3. AUS 1407 Crunchie Harry Price and Nathan Edwards 2,5,3,3,3,8-24
