Fifteen crews comprising some of New Zealand top sailors from Olympic and America's Cup ranks competed in an Invitational Series off Auckland's Westhaven Marina on Tuesday evening.

Although intended as a fun series, the competitive juices soon flowed as fast as ever and they enjoyed some very competitive racing in light winds and an outgoing tide.

The Etchells class is an international one design keelboat able to be sailed by three or four crew. There are several fleets established and regularly racing in New Zealand.
