Box Boats' Australian One Design Catamaran - Box 8.5

The Box 8.5 is the latest one design catamaran to hit the market, Australian designed and built and it has hit the market running! After a successful debut regatta at the OMR Multihull Nationals in Airlie Beach the Box 8.5 was showcased at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week where it received rave reviews and took home the silverware in the newly formed multihull division.

A market individual for many reasons, the key features of a Box 8.5 were obvious to Paul Mitchell, local sail maker and world class 505 sailor; 'I'm surprised how easy it was to sail. Really anyone can get onboard and do 20 plus knots safely'. Dave Bigger, builder of the Box 8.5 comments; 'Really that is the back bone of the concept, a 28ft carbon race yacht for under $100,000 that delivers really high performance and the excitement one design racing, but most of all it had to be EASY'. Not only easy to sail but also logistically as they are simple and quick to rig and unrig and transportable behind any medium sized vehicle.

Now the Box 8.5 Class Associations' energy shifts to the formation of the Box 8.5 one design, five regatta sailing series. Each regatta to be four days with three days of racing and one official practice day. Up to five, professionally run fourty-five minute races a day on exciting, windward leeward courses with gates at the top and bottom marks within close proximity of shoreside spectators. The series will begin early 2014 and will be spread throughout the year with events in multiple states and the option of an Asian leg still on the table.

Please contact Box Boats through the website or email us directly at info@boxboat.com.au for more information or to book a test sail.
