Working from a pontoon platform, the research team collected a sediment core from Salt Pond in Falmouth, Mass. An aluminum tube was vibrated through the metal tripod into the muddy sediment at the bottom of the pond and then extracted with a hoist. The core provides evidence of intense storm events going back approximately 2000 years - Prehistoric-hurricanes
