Volvo Match Race Cup 2011 was held at Yacht Club Kruezlingen from 29th April to 1st May and is the open Swiss Match Racing qualifier.

Jérôme Clerc and his team from the Geneva Regatta Training Centre (Centre d’Entraînement à la Régate - CER) have won the Swiss champion title during the Volvo Match Race Cup Zug. Thanks to this result, they are directly qualified for St. Moritz Match Race, the World Match Race Tour Swiss stopover.

The final of the Volvo Match Race Cup took place last week-end in Zug. The event saw the victory of Jérôme Clerc’s team, ahead of Alain Stettler, Eric Monnin and Marcel Walser.

The final took place in light conditions. Jérôme Clerc and his team (Bryan Mettraux, Elodie-Jane Mettraux and Denis Girardet) took the best start and controlled their opponent throughout the race, winning the title convincingly.

'We stared really badly', commented Jérôme Clerc. 'We lost our first three matches and had to win everything after this. That’s what we did! The semi-finale against Eric Monnin’s team was really intense. We won 2-0 and were very pleased with this. Then we competed in the final and kept one boat length ahead of our opponent throughout the race. It was very tense!'

The team from the CER started the season in style, winning events in the Decision 35 Class. They now confirm their talent on other supports. Thanks to this victory, they will compete this summer in St. Moritz Match Race (August 30 – September 4), the Swiss stopover of the World Match Racing Tour, against the world’s best specialists.
