The third annual Seawind Whitsunday Rally set sail last Saturday June 20 for a week of racing and partying around the Whitsunday Islands onboard 14 Seawind catamarans.
Brent Vaughan reports ' We are having a great sail here at the Seawind Whitsunday rally. As I type we are sailing In about 12 knots with the sun now shining and the fleet approaching the beautiful and secluded Shaw Island, following an exciting Le Mans style dinghy start.
'Last night was Hawaiian night at Long Island and our Karaoke competion that brought out some hidden talent, and some talent that we are still looking for.
'This afternoon we have the blind man's dingy race, with points from all of the off water activities all counting towards the final point score.
'I know is tough but someone has to do it, he commented as he signed off.'
Here is the latest news from the Rally.
Approximately 60 crew members have joined the fun filled week of social racing and activities, flying in from all around Australia and overseas. The rally will have the fleet race from island to island with a party or event at each of the seven destinations, including Shute Harbour, Long Island, Shaw Island, Hamilton Island, Whitehaven Beach, Butterfly Bay and South Molle Island.
The rally is part of a year long series of regattas and cruising safaris around Australia (including Sydney, Jervis Bay, Moreton Bay, Mandurah WA) and the Americas (including Catalina Island - California, Mexico and the Bahamas) with approximately 100 Seawind catamarans and 500 crew members participating throughout the year.
The Seawind range is available for charter from operators located at Abel Point Marina such as event sponsors Whitsunday Private Yacht Charters or Whitsunday Rent A Yacht from Shute Harbour. The general public are encouraged to charter a Seawind to participate in the rally, with the event now running every 12 months.
Daily updates from the committee boat will be made on Twitter (search: seawindcats), Face Book (search: Seawind Catamarans) and Flickr (Search: Seawind Catamarans) including photos and place winners.
