Sixth Tasar title victory for NSW sailors in Victor Harbor

IMG 1141 - Southern Diesel & Marine 40th Tasar Nationals Stuart Templeton
The Southern Diesel & Marine 40th Tasar National Titles held in Victor Harbor concluded on Friday January 4th 2013 with the NSW father and daughter team of Rob and Nicole Douglass from Jervis Bay Sailing Club claiming their sixth National Title.

The other podium place getters were Hugh Tait and Tara McCall from NSW in second and Mike Karas and Molly Jackson from Seattle Yacht Club from the USA in third. All three teams put together a very consistent regatta with all counted results inside the top ten during the event. Female skipper was taken out by Heather MacFarlane from VIC and every team in the top 10 were a combination of male and female.

The last race session was programmed for Friday January 4th and saw Rob and Nicole leading the regatta comfortably. Tasars left the beach in a building Northerly breeze in almost 40 degrees of heat by 10am.

Race Officer Robert Rogerson made the tough on water decision to abandon racing for the day with the breeze consistently gusting above 25 knots. With a relatively light event up to this stage some of the heavy air sailors were looking forward to finally stretching their legs, but it wasn’t to be.

The regatta was well run by the Tasar Association of South Australia and Victor Harbor Yacht Club creating a uniquely South Australian experience for all competitors. A big thank you to all sponsors, particularly Southern Diesel & Marine, Ronstan, NB Sailsports and Coriole Vineyards and to the volunteers that helped made this event a success.

The top ten place getters overall are below:
1st Nicole Douglass and Rob Douglass NSW
2nd Hugh Tait and Tara McCall NSW
3rd Michael Karas and Molly Jackson USA
4th Michael Quirk and Marise Hannaford NSW
5th Shane Guanaria and Phillipa Aravello NSW
6th Rick Longbottom and Candice Cushway Defence/ACT
7th Heather MacFarlane and Chris Payne VIC
8th Pete Ellis and Charlotte Birbeck VIC
9th Jonathan Ross and Jacqueline Bange VIC
10th Lloyd Lissiman and Fiona Campbell WA

The 41st Tasar Nationals are confirmed to be held at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria next Christmas and we hope to see you there.
