Sail to Glory- The dramatised story of the first America's Cup - Video

by Sail-World on 29 Jul 2013

Maritime Productions presents the first of the trailers for its video library of America's Cup and other sailing video, available on a rent to view basis.

It features an ambitious docu-drama, which is the only film ever produced of the original race around the Isle of Wight in 1851. In 1968 Gerald Schnitzer, a noted Hollywood Producer/Director wrote and directed this epic story.

The story starts with Queen Victoria's invitation to the New York Yacht Club to visit England for the Great Exhibition in 1851. Taking up the offer an American syndicate built a schooner they named America.

The film recreates how the New York Yacht Club's first Commodore, John Cox Stevens, challenged Britain for the trophy that would become the America's Cup. See the sleek yacht 'America' under sail. Meet the men who had the vision to design and build her, and then sail across the Atlantic to take on the pride of British yachting in 1851.

Maritime Productions exhaustive America’s Cup library includes the America3 Foundation Collection of 1992 & 1995 Louis Vuitton & America’s Cup, the exclusive collections of America’s Cup by John Biddle, The Cronkite Report, the Uhl Collection, the archives of the famed Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea, at Mystic, Connecticut, as well as films acquired and produced by America’s Cup aficionado Keating, for over 25 years.

All of this material is now available for the first time in full High Definition (HD), most transferred from the original 16mm and 35mm film to HD by Peter Jackson’s state-of-art Park Road post-production laboratory in Wellington, New Zealand. Park Road’s credits include the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy, 'The Hobbit', 'King Kong' and 'District 9'.

Much of this material is part of the huge private America’s Cup collection of Mr. William I. Koch, America’s Cup Hall of Famer, who successfully defended the Auld Mug in 1992 with his ground-breaking IACC yacht, America3. Mr. Koch is lending a part of that unique collection to America’s Cup Events Authority for display in the America’s Cup Park throughout the 2013 America’s Cup event in San Francisco.

Two things
The first time something occurs it's happenstance. Next is circumstance. The third is enemy action. So, there's an axiom that states, the first time something occurs it's happenstance. The next is circumstance, and the third is enemy action. Now on paper, and under that ruling, that makes this here Ed the latter. Hhhmmmm.
