Product of the Week- Fast Fender

by Lee Mylchreest on 3 Aug 2010
Fast Fender - let the pictures tell the story SW
There are two difficulties about getting fenders ready in a hurry:

First, they take so long to tie them to the guard rail.

Second, Murphy's law says that the level will be wrong and you'll have to retie them at the very last minute, or risk scratching your nice shiny hull on the dock

...that is, until Fast Fender came along...

These are natty inventions, a Dutch brainchild, but now they are sold in many sailing countries, including France, Italy, the UK, Portugal, Poland, Germany, the USA, Australia and Turkey.

They've been selling in Europe for three years, gradually being introduced, so that now they are popularly selling in 11 countries only in Europe!

Whether you are rafting up, heading for a dock or entering a berth with yachts or poles on either side, they have to be the ultimate solution for boaters who need to hang and adjust heavy marine fenders easily and rapidly.

Here are the advantages as I see them:
1. You can attach them with one hand, leaving the other for holding on or whatever.
2. They're fast on, and then fast off.
3. You can move them easily along the guardrail or wire, to get them into the most effective position.
4. The line is attached through a snatch block. This means with a simple release you can adjust the level of the fender to allow for the levels of the water, another boat, or the dock
5. They are very light, so there's no extra weight to worry about.
6. While they are very flexible as to the size of the railing or wire, there are two different sizes to accommodate all needs.

They are quite new in Australia, but becoming more popular by the week. You can contact the Australian dealer, or you can start the ordering process online, at www.fastfenderaust.com.au, and have them contact you.

The loss of the last 'dress rehearsal' is something of a disappointment Although there was just enough breeze to execute a couple of meaningful practice starts, the breeze dropped away and thereafter proved insufficient to allow the planned two short official practice races to be sailed today off Porto Cervo.

And so, it begins…
Grand Final not run yet, but our Hobart coverage begins with something very cool Maybe a tad earlier than last year, which I think was after the Grand Final, but the 100th entrant seemed like a good place to set things off. Now with that said, Sail-World's Hobart coverage begins.
