The 2007/08 Australian Laser Championships will be held at Blairgowrie on Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula between December 27 this year and January 4, 2008 and now there is an incentive to enter early.
Victorian Laser Association President, James Mitchell, commented
‘We expect at least 60 international competitors to attend and the location at Blairgowrie and the mainly afternoon racing schedule will give everyone a chance to explore the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. The generally smooth water conditions will appeal to everyone and provide very close racing for a class renowned for producing International Champions in all classes'.
To assist with regatta planning the Victorian Laser Association and the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, with the assistance of Performance Sailcraft Australia, have announced an incentive for early entry to the 08 Australian Laser Championships.
Win a new centerboard – enter 08 Australian Laser Championship early.
Entries received and paid before October 15, 2007 go into a draw to win a brand new centerboard valued in excess of AUS$600. The winner will be drawn at the Victorian Port Phillip Championship on 24tth and 25th November. All existing entries will be included in the draw.
Entries can be made at http://www.viclaser.yachting.org.au/ and payments will be received by credit card either on line or by post.
The event will be one of the last major Laser regattas before the 2008 Laser World Championships, planned for February 2008. Being an Olympic year, organisers are anticipating up to 300 entrants across the 3 Laser formula classes – Laser Standard, Laser Radial and Laser 4.7. Competitor ages are expected to range from 12 to 80+ years.
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Commodore, Kevin Wickham commented ‘ The club is planning for the biggest sailing event it has ever hosted, and is working with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council to ensure that competitors and visitors will enjoy the Regatta and all of the tourist infrastructure and attractions that the Peninsula has to offer.
'We have prevailing off shore breezes, flat water and excellent access to a wide sandy beach, a strong family membership base and active off-the-beach and keelboat fleets. We are looking forward to hosting a memorable event in conjunction with the Victorian and Australian Laser Associations and to welcoming competitors, their families and friends from all over the world to Blairgowrie'.
