2016 World Match Racing Tour - Team Ka Match – skippered by Evan Walker - is heading into the Newport leg of the World Match Racing tour with confidence, after some impressive results in Copenhagen last week.

The young team showed they what it takes to match it with the world’s best, beating champion Ian Williams in two races of the round of 16 knock out. Race two was a particular highlight for the boys. After being locked out at the start line, Walker played a right hand shift to come back within striking distance, passing Williams on the last downwind leg to take the race.

The team of CYCA Sailing Academy graduates finished 11th overall in light, shift conditions. The result has placed them 12th on the tour, and in a good position to qualify for the tour final in Marstrand, Sweden. There’s a lot on the line, the tour carries the biggest single prize in sailing history – the winner taking home $1,000,000 prize money.

The team - which includes tactician Sean O’Rourke, downwind trimmer Hamish Hardy and main trimmer Rhys Mara – has been working hard to improve their agility in the very physical M32 class. They’ve been going from strength to strength throughout the legs of the tour, and are expected to produce some more strong results in Newport.
