Countdown to the 25th HSBC Coastal Classic Race

44 DAYS TO GO!

Please forward this email bulletin on to your race crew

GIRLS, TAKE NOTE

This is your chance to shine in the HSBC Coastal Classic. The women’s division features a uniquely special trophy for the first all-female crew to Russell on handicap. The Te Hoe o Wairaka trophy was carved by Maori carver Te Hau Tutua, and is named after Wairaka, daughter of the chief of the Matatua canoe who succeeded in beaching the canoe after it had accidentally been set adrift with only one woman onboard.

A LOOK AT COASTALS PAST

In 1991 five inches was chopped from Kiwi’s bow to enable the boat to race in Division 2, while a 727 called The Source had a few inches added, enabling the boat to meet minimum size requirements and join the official race fleet.

SPONSOR PROFILE: MASPORT

Masport are, once again, delighted to support the HSBC Coastal Classic.
The enthusiasm of the participants always makes this event one of the most enjoyable in the sports calendar. Hopefully the winners of this year’s outdoor entertainment equipment will be as pleased as last years! Masport have been manufacturing product for both the business and the domestic sector for 96 years, and from the early sponsorship of the ‘Miss Masport’ speedboat in 1922, to the production of Barlow yacht winches from the mid 70’s through to the mid 80’s, Masport has had a lot in common with the nautically minded. Best wishes for all the participants this year!

MEDIA BOATS

We have already received requests from media wanting to race aboard boats in this year’s race. If you can help by providing a spot, please email ccinfo@coastalclassic.co.nz.

IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY

To start planning. Cat 3 is compulsory for all HSBC Coastal Classic entrants, and so is PHRF for keelboats. Unless you have made major modifications to your boat, PHRF renews annually, and Cat 3 comes around every three years. Penalty fees for late applications have also been increased this year. You could leave renewal until the last minute… or take care of it over winter. www.yachtingnz.org.nz
