Evans and Burling drop to second in 420 Finals

by Sail-World on 17 Aug 2006
Dan Willcox and Mat Jones get away to a clear start in the 420 Europeans Event Media
New Zealand 420 World Champions Carl Evans and Peter Burling have dropped out of first place for the the first time in their European tour. Sailing in the 420 Junior European Championships, in the Gold fleet Finals section of the regatta, the New Zealand duo are one point behind Balzeau Berenger and Fountaine Mathieu (FRA) who won all three races in the Gold Fleet.

Evans and Burling did not have a good day, by their standards finishing with two seconds and a third, but used their carried forward win from the Qualifying Round to minimise the gap.

Lying in 18th overall are a second New Zealand crew of Dan Willcox and Mathew Jones - sons of old 470 rivals Hamish Willcox and Murray Jones, who are both engaged in America's Cup campaigns and are based in Europe.
