Audi Hamilton Island Race Week- And That's a Wrap!

by Crosbie Lorimer on 23 Aug 2014
And that's a wrap! - Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2014 Crosbie Lorimer http://www.crosbielorimer.com
This 2014 Race Week has closed with classic strong breezes and sun. It's been another great week of racing, offering a mixture of conditions and proving that the winners of this year's regatta are strong all-rounders; although one or two feel they attracted rather too much of the handicapper's attention at the beginning of the week during the light airs and suffered accordingly when it started to blow. Usually accompanied by a wry grin when mentioned!

Most memorable moments this year included seeing Bob Oatley not only sailing aboard Wild Oats XI on several days in his specially designed chair, but better still, steering the AC45! And he wasn't the only octogenarian involved in high performance racing. Bob Oatley's good friend Bill Buckle steered the AC45 for a large part of one of the races.

A personal highlight also involved the AC45. Getting the opportunity to sail on this machine along with photographer Craig Greenhill and the chance that gave us to capture the experience on video and in stills was a blast!

Back again next year.
