ANZ Fiji Race - First finishers break both records

Team Vodafone Sailing have smashed the ANZ Sail Fiji record to become the fastest boat ever to sail from Auckland to Denarau.
Simon Hull and his team crossed the finish line at Port Denerau at 22:31:03 on Monday 6th June just 59 hours 31 minutes and 3 seconds after the start on Saturday 4th June. That’s under 60 hours for 1,110 nautical miles! The previous record was 3 days 20 hours 49 minutes and 36 seconds set by Beau Geste in 2014.
“We averaged about 19 knots the whole way I think!” said navigator Guy Hewson.
“It’s great to finally get a record for this race!” said skipper Simon Hull. “It was awesome. Wet and wild, but awesome.”
The crew are now recovering from their awesome race.
The second boat to cross the finish line of ANZ Sail Fiji 2016 was Jim Delegat’s Volvo 70 Giacomo.
The crew had to complete a few tacks as they made their way through the reef and eventually crossed the finish line at 09:53:19 on Tuesday 7th June. Their elapsed time was 2 days 22 hours 53 minutes and 19 seconds.
Giacomo has also broken the race record with their time now going down in the history books for the monohull record. Team Vodafone Sailing holds the multihull record of 2 days 11 hours 31 minutes and 3 seconds.
The crew are now making their way to Port Denarau Marina.
