A-Cat See-Saw - Six times World Champion Ashby in the lead again

A-Class Catamaran World Championships 2010 - Another lead swap and six time A Class World Champion Australian Glenn Ashby leads the 2010 series after seven races of the nine race series.

The 2010 A Cat-Worlds are being sailed in devilishly light conditions in Cesenatico,Italy. In this same venue the Worlds were previously sailing in similar conditions in 1982 and 2000.

Glenn Ashby commented to Sail-World earlier in the week.

‘This tricky light air sailing with plenty of current reminds me somewhat of the Olympic Games training in China!

‘I have taken a gamble on the regatta being sailed in very light air and have chosen a sail that normally would be for guys 10kg+ heavier than I am. So far I have been fortunate with this choice and have been very powered up which has been handy at times.’

In these conditions, Ashby’s worst result so far is a 17th and his has accrued four bullets, Brewin bombed with a 64 in the first race of the day.

The event is closer than it looks; Brewin is only two points behind Ashby after a single discard. With two more races tomorrow there will be a full schedule and a second drop.

The media output from this event is non-existent. At this stage this event is a hot hot contender for the mostly poorly reported World Championship for 2010

Seems like no one required the Italian event organisers to arrange an event media writer.

Is it not beyond the wit of this smart group of World Class sailors to recognise that a key mulltihull world Championship event needs to make some noise, sponsors need value and the Class World Championship needs promoting?

Guys we all want multihulls to have a higher profile, perhaps even to be sailed at the Olympics??? You never know it could happen, but this kind of silliness does not help

Will the International A-Class Catamaran Association now move to add a minimum media coverage requirement on all A Cat World Championship events?

Does the Class Association feel the least bit embarrassed that the news output from this event is zilch??
