Renovation and expansion of OMYC Marina, Pattaya

by Poralu Marine on 13 Jul 2012
In early 2011, the French SMB chose to establish itself in Asia to explore new markets in China, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. This expansion strategy is already bearing fruit. In Thailand, Poralu Marine in the contracted supplier for the renovation of the Ocean Marina Yacht Club’s marina at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, Thailand.

Thailand is a popular destination for sailors thanks to the quality of the water and favourable winds in this region, and its surrounding islands. Ocean Property, parent company of the Thai company Ocean Marina Yacht Club, is actively committed to the luxury boating sector.

The renovation of the marina in Jomtien Beach is part of Pattaya’s Green Innovative Tourism City environmental project being implemented over the next ten years. The main objective is to promote sustainable development through good management of the tourism industry, with the deployment of a range of strategies.

Poralu Marine has brought all its expertise to the Thai nautical sector, which is stable and continues to generate steady tourist revenue. For this luxury marina project, involving major ecological challenges, Ocean Property chose to work with Poralu Marine, as this French firm is recognised for its top-of-the-range infrastructures incorporating a strong environmental dimension. By way of example, in late 2011 Poralu Marine launched a new range of premium pontoons whose environmental impact is reduced from the design stage onwards through the use of infinitely recyclable materials.

After this initial successful collaboration, Ocean Property and Poralu Marine plan to work in partnership to create a boat show in Bangkok. Asia is displaying a strong interest in developing its luxury sector, while also preserving its natural environment. Ocean Property and Poralu Marine are very much in line with this trend.

Signed in September 2011, this contract valued at €1.4m is the first
collaboration between the port-equipment provider and the company Ocean Property. It involves replacing two existing marina pontoons and creating two new ones in order to increase the marina’s capacity. The first stage involved the installation of new pontoons, and was completed in April, going a long way to assist with accommodation of the racing fleet in town for the eighth Top of the Gulf Regatta 2012. The second phase involved replacing two old pontoons, and was completed in June 2012.

Formerly fitted with pure wood decking, Ocean Property wisely opted for pontoons covered with ECOTECKTM decking in fully recyclable composite wood, from the Poralu Marine range, supported by an aluminium structure. The marina will eventually have 200 moorings, able to accommodate boats ranging from 40 to 145 feet, as well as 20 further moorings for mega-yachts (100 to 145 feet). The installations are complemented by peripheral accessories from the Poralu Marine catalogue such as the Rolec Spinnaker service bollards, sturdy, modern, resin-based products which blend perfectly into the marina environment.

The Ocean Marina Yacht Club complex contains a yacht club, a hotel and luxury apartment buildings. With offices in Shanghai and Singapore, Poralu Marine is well positioned to understand the complexities of a highly specific Asian market and capitalise on the dynamism of the nautical sector in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, India, Malaysia and the Middle East. Its high-end and green-business positioning fits perfectly with Asian development trends.
