Solo Northern Area Championships at Leigh and Lowton

The 2012 Northern Area Championships took place over 23-24 June at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club. It was a breezy first day with average wind speeds in the region of 16-18 knots and 31 knot gusts coming through gave tiring sailing to the 26 boats which set out for the first race.
By the start of the third race of the day, the numbers were down to sixteen. On the Sunday, the wind started at a much lower strength but by the end of the sixth race conditions were in the same region as Saturday’s winds. Overall winner for the Northern Championships was Andy Tunnicliffe from RWYC with David Mitchell taking the Sunday Northern Traveller event.
Results for the Northern Travellers Series are taken from Races 4,5 and 6 sailed on Sunday 24th.
