Soling European Championship 2012 Matias Collins
The Soling European Championship 2012 are being held in Kalovig Sailing Center, Aarhus, Denmark. Three more races were held today, Thursday 14th June, and only two more races are left.
The wind today was a shifty westerly coming from 250 to 270 degrees, allowing for three races with the ISA standard sailing courses, a six leg windward/leeward using a mini reach after the last downwind mark. Despite the 8 to 12 degrees temperature during the day, the Danish were not complaining as this is their 'summer'.
The first race began on time with a clear start. HUN 77 (Wossala, Ludwig and Nemeth) dominated from the beginning leading the upwind mark and never losing the edge. The followers kept changing but it was Team Edding ARG 37 (Warburg, Ferres and Lacour) who, in the last upwind with better positioning and later one with a great downwind, managed to jump into second, showing their expertise in the class. Third came in GER 304 (Maschkiwitz, Wenzel and Wossala) who for almost all the race were in second.
The wind increased considerably for the second race of the day (race number six) and the Big Maremma boys GER 1 (Koch, Koch and Bornemann ) took the bullet home from the start until the end. They were followed by a big burprise since it was a huge fight GER 292 (Scherer, Baumuller and Thoma) and in third came the ISA president NED 1 (Offermans, Hillege and Roth).
The wind again decreased for the start of the third race of the day (race number seven) but later on the wind increased again then came down again at the end of the race. This was won by GER 304 and followed by reigning World Champion CAN 225 (Hall, Vree and Hall). In third securing their overall lead and a really consistent championship was Team Edding ARG 37.
Although the race committee wished to race a fourth race, on the day common sense was used. It was really too cold to keep racing so two races will be held on the last day of the
