Albert Sailing Club's annual Winter regatta is being sailed on Albert Park Lake in South Melbourne on Saturday 23rd June (pm) and Sunday 24th June (am, pm).
This has been a popular regatta for over 25 years for sailors of senior, youth and junior monohull dinghy classes. The regatta is sailed on Albert Park Lake, just 5 kilometres south of the centre of Melbourne. It again follows a short race format with multiple races of 30 to 45 minutes in three sessions. There will be an Information Session at 1pm on Saturday followed by the first session from 1.45. There are then races scheduled for Sunday morning and afternoon. The format and venue suits people all levels of experience. As in recent years the largest fleets are expected in the Laser, Impulse, Sabre, OK dinghy, Optimist and Minnow classes.
The Victorian Championships for the Mirror Class will be sailed in conjunction with the 2012 Regatta. The current Australian champions Anita Scott Murphy and Ben Kruse from Melbourne's Williamstown Sailing Club will be favourites for the event. They can expect some tough competition from Owen McMahon (a Victorian Mirror Champion in the 1980's) and Ted Zammit (a past Australian Minnow champion) and their Albert Sailing Club crews.

The Regatta is part of Albert Sailing Club's winter sailing season which commenced in early May and continues through each weekend until mid September. Visitors are most welcome to sail in other club races during the winter season. The club has a large well-appointed clubhouse with full facilities for sailors and their support crews. Spectators are well provided for with close-up viewing of the racing available from the clubhouse and the northern shores of the lake.
