Summer Sailstice is on again - June 23

by Sail-World Cruising on 25 May 2012
Summer Sailstice - thousands of boats already participate SW
Every year thousands of people sign up to go sailing on the weekend nearest the solstice for a global celebration of sailing called Summer Sailstice. Don't be left out this year!

Perfectly timed to greet the summer sailing season, Summer Sailstice hails the beginning of long days and warm weather on the water. If you have a friend or friends who don't sail and would like to, this is a great time to start. If they are not near you, then sign them up to connect with sailors and sailboats wherever they are.

Signing up also puts everyone in a draw to win from over 400 prizes supplied by the world's best marine businesses.

Prizes include a FREE one-week sailing charter in the British Virgin Islands from Footloose Yacht Charters, a Hobie i12 kayak, GoPro HD Hero2 video cameras, and much more.

What if you don't have a sailboat?

You don't have to own a sailboat to go sailing. There are millions more sailors than sailboats because almost every sailboat needs 1-5 crew to sail. You just need to find a sailboat to crew on or find one of the numerous locations offering public sailing. There are literally hundreds of places and ways to get sailing even if you don't have a sailboat.

It's easier than you think.

Don't be left ashore on June 23rd: http://www.summersailstice.com/find/events/!Click_here to find an event near you. The USA has the most, but they are all across Europe as well, with some in Asia.

2011 Footloose Charter winner just returned from her Free sailing vacation in the British Virgin Islands!
Last year Carleen and Darwin Southard enjoyed one day sailing on Summer Sailstice and it turned into 10 free days of sailing in the BVI aboard a 43' Footloose charter boat!

Little did they expect, when they signed up their Catalina 28, 'Moana' sailing out of Oceanside Yacht Club in Southern California, they'd be off on their first ever BVI charter a year later. Not a bad reward for a day of sailing.

Join wherever you are:
Bill Mosher, board member of Milwaukee Community Sailing Center describes their local event on Lake Michigan, with almost 800 participants, 'Milwaukee Bay comes alive with sailboats thanks to Summer Sailstice.

'The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center, Milwaukee Yacht Club, South Shore YC and MAST club all pitch in to help make it a great day on Lake Michigan. Our poker run to five local favorite restaurants has become a tradition.' Long Beach Race Week, the US Sailing Center and numerous other locations around the country and around the world will be sailing - join them.

Don't forget, sailing is windpowered!

Celebrate the wind... you can sail all day without burning a drop of oil. Nothing in our life is completely oil free but with gas at over $4/gallon sailing represents a pretty good alternative. You can sail all summer without fossil fuels, without the noise of engines and reconnect with friends on the water. Start out by signing up for Summer Sailstice this year.

Can you help get the whole world sailing?
Forward this email to a friend and ask them to sign up and sail 'with you', wherever they are, on Summer Sailstice. It's the first weekend of summer - make sure they don't miss it!

About Summer Sailstice:

Fortune favours the Beneteaus!
Thank you, Huey… Some sun, and a tad of wind means it is time to go racing... Ahead of the annual Beneteau Pittwater Regatta by Flagstaff Marine the weather had not been all that grand. So, peaks of sun migrating to distinct patches, and the occasional zephyr turning into a waft, then on to a calm breeze was fortunate.
