Bureau of Meteorology SMS Weather Warning Trial

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is trialling a Short Message Service (SMS) for weather warnings. The trial is free (only asking for feedback), but is available only for the Sydney, Perth, Gold Coast and Cairns regions, and only for the next two months. After this the service will cease, but evaluations as to this and other services will continue.

An example of the messages which will be delivered is: Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Advice WA issued 4.57PM Sat 8 Mar More info 1300 659 213 or www.bom.gov.au

The service can be accessed through the BoM http://www.bom.gov.au/ and then the Weather Forecasts, Warnings and Observations pages for Queensland and NSW.
