The Sinking of Inception, M2PF Easter 2012: The offshore race, Melbourne to Port Fairy, traverses some of the world’s most challenging waters. When an unforecast gale hit the fleet on the evening of April 6th (Good Friday) the consequences were severe. Inception, having lost its life raft, foundered in deep waters and sank suddenly, leaving Jeff Dusting and his crew of five to survive in the cold and treacherous waters off Port Campbell for more than two hours.
In an un-precedented rescue at sea, Grant Dunoon and the crew of Try Booking drew upon Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Ocean Racing Club of Victoria resources to locate and then manoeuvre to pluck the crew from the water. All six crew survived.
The Melbourne to Apollo Bay Race: The Melbourne to Apollo Bay yacht race is a 54 nautical mile race from Queenscliff to Apollo Bay. The race departs at 6:30 am this Saturday, with the first yachts expected to arrive six to seven hours later.
