This weekend (May 3rd and 4th 2003) sees the five Victorian Sydney 38 One Designs (S38OD’s) battle it out for their first State Championship.
This weekend Lou Abrahams’ twice National Champion Challenge Again will take on Eric Van De Griends' Clockwork Orange, Bruce Taylors' extensively campaigned Chutzpah, Terry Halls’ new boat Live Wire and Savage’s 38 degrees South.
Run out of Sandringham Yacht Club the seven race (six to count) will test the crews fully with Melbourne Port Phillip Bay generally light and variable at this time of year.
The windward/leeward courses have been designed to allow for short, aggressive racing which suits the S38OD so well.
Of particular interest will be the return to racing of Savage after a year off with injuries. Savage, a past National Etchells champion knows the bay well and will provide a strong challenge to the indominatable Abraham’s.
Of course the social aspect of S38 OD racing will be highlighted with beers on the dock for the crews after racing and a BBQ.
Sydney Yachts will be continuing their class support by supplying a number of Prizes, as they have in NSW and National Events.
Results will be posted on the Sydney 38 Web site on Monday morning –
