Happy Easter! Mister Chicken is watching you - 27th Magic Marine Easter Regatta Fettje Osinga
The 27th edition of the Easter Regatta is underway this weekend at WV Braassemermeer, The Netherlands.
260 Optimist sailors, representing thirteen nations are on the starting line. Sailing from Friday afternoon until Monday, the children are fighting for the chance to have their photo placed on the one and only Easter egg if they win the event.
It’s early in the season; competitors and committees are warming up for the long season ahead. Are they ready for the official start of the season?
Last year, the kids could wear shorts and polo shirts: this year they predict snow. We haven’t seen any snowmen yet: yesterday was beautiful sunny weather and light winds. Two races were scheduled and last years winner Bart Lambriex (NED) is determined to repeat his win. Bart is holding first position after day one. The number 3 from last year, Stijn Paardekooper (NED) currently holds the second place. His plan for today is 'to sail only bullets', so Bart should watch his back!
Three races scheduled today and two special guests will visit the young competitors this evening: Jeske Kesters and Afrodite Kyranakoue, who just became 470s World Champions. Their story will motivate these young optimist sailors for sure!
As it is Easter, the organizing committee would like to wish you all a Happy Easter.
